Summer Concert pays musical tribute to Headteacher

Music from the decades was performed at West Hatch High School's Summer Concert with the programme charting the history of the school - and paying tribute to retiring Headteacher Frances Howarth.

Mrs Howarth is leaving the High Road school at the end of term having been Headteacher for almost 20 years.

She originally joined as Head of Music and after four years left to become a local authority education advisor before returning as Deputy Headteacher in 1993. She was appointed Headteacher in 1999.

Epping Forest District Council chairman Dave Stallan was among the audience and joined chairman of governors John Haley in presenting Mrs Howarth with a personalised retirement cake.

Performances were given by the school's bands and several singers as the programme featured hits and rock anthems from the 1950s to the present day highlighting different periods in the life and development of the school.

Mrs Howarth said: "I was very touched with the send off I received. Our students were amazing and so talented. My thanks to Mr McGonigal, Mr Sheehan and Ms Martin for all their hard work and to our charity ambassador Arjun Kuhaendran for his input and kindness.

"I have felt so privileged being head of West Hatch. It's a wonderful school and I will miss it greatly."
